Apoorva Guptay was born and raised in Bombay. It is also the only city he has known. Bombay has been the focus of his work for the past 15 years. Everything he has learned and understood as a photographer, he owes it to the streets of Bombay; they never cease to amaze him.

As an observer, he has continually studied the city space, recording a living society and the politics of the everyday. He works with an intuitive approach and a sensibility for detail, drawing upon the setting, fact, observation, cinema and sound. Yet the workings of chance and instinct are integral to his practice. The substance of his work is shaped as much from the frames he captures, as from those he doesn't.

His work spans street photography, documentary, portraiture, and editorial photography. Guptay initially worked with Time-Out Mumbai and later went on to be Photo Editor with People Magazine. As an independent photographer he has worked on assignments with various publications and corporates such as PRINT Magazine, GQ India, The New York Times, ID Magazine, OPEN, Tehelka, BBC Radio One, CRY Foundation, DHFL, ICICI Bank, LAKME, and Tata Consultancy Services.

As he continues his journey as a photographer, he is also exploring Film and Video and aims to bring in similar sensibilities to the medium.

Apoorva Guptay lives and works in Bombay.
